Perimeter drainage

A perimeter drain works like a gutter in the ground. It collects and carries away groundwater before it reaches the foundation. Installing one requires excavation along the external walls, tanking of the basement walls, and perforated drainage pipes laid to lead the water away.

Interior drainage

Where a perimeter drain is not possible — on a tight site, for instance — an interior drain can be installed inside the basement along the walls or beneath the floor. The system uses drainage channels and sump pumps to relieve the water pressure.
